Macedonia started almost as well in this game, as Germany did in theirs, quickly taking a 4:0 lead.
Serbia played very nervously in the opening minutes, and the vocal Macedonian fans created a fantastic atmosphere in the fully packed Boris Trajkovski arena.
The magnificent Andrea Lekic was again the leading force of the Serbian team and with her goal and assists the red and blue team fought back to 4:4, causing Macedonia coach Vladimir Gligorov to call an early time out.
Then Serbia went into the lead, and from this period an exciting game developed with nice attacking play from both sides.
Serbia increased their lead to three goals, but the Macedonian coach changed the team´s defence to a 5 and 1 formation, which proved to be a good decision.
The lead then changed hands several times, but Macedonian goalkeeper Tanja Andrejeva repeated her heroics from the previous game, taking Macedonia to a two goal lead at half-time.
End to end action
The second half started with as much excitement as the first, with both teams putting up a great fight and producing some brilliant goals, and yet, at the same time, defending carelessly and conceding several two-minute suspensions.
Macedonia kept the lead until the 48th minute, when Serbia equalised and the Macedonian coach called a time out.
It was world-class player Andrea Lekic whose goal gave the lead to the red and blues again.
The team of Caslav Dincic increased the difference, but the Macedonian girls went all-out for the win, and five minutes before the final whistle they levelled the score.
In a tight and exciting final period, Serbia had little luck in attack, hitting the woodwork several times.
Serbia out
Finally, Macedonia won the Balkan clash by a single goal, and will go to the Main Round with two points, whilst Serbia bids a proud farewell to EURO 2008 after some unlucky defeats and some unforgettably brave performances.
Goalkeeper Tanja Andrejeva was nominated as the best player for Macedonia and Andrea Lekic for Serbia.
